Zinc chloride has many applications in the agricultural, pharmaceutical, electroplating and dyeing industries. Here are the physical and chemical properties of Zinc chloride:

White hexagonal crystalline granular crystal or powder. Soluble in water, soluble in methanol, ethanol, glycerol, acetone, aether, insoluble in liquid ammonia. Highly deliquescent, can absorb moisture from the air and deliquesce. Has the property of dissolving metal oxides and cellulose. Fused zinc chloride has good electrical conductivity. A thick white smoke is generated when it is scorched. Corrosive. Toxic!

Safety Protection of Zinc Chloride

Zinc chloride is toxic to humans. Zinc chloride can violently irritate and burn the skin and mucous membranes, and if a person comes into contact with its vapors for a long time, allergic dermatitis can occur. Inhalation of zinc chloride fumes can cause bouts of coughing and nausea after 5 to 30 minutes. Damage to the upper respiratory tract, trachea and bronchial mucosa. The maximum allowable concentration of zinc chloride fumes in the United States is 1 mg/m3

Production personnel should wear overalls, protective glasses, anti-toxic masks and latex gloves when working to protect their skin, eyes and respiratory organs. The workshop should be well ventilated and hot showers should be taken after work.

Storage and Transportation

Industrial solid zinc chloride should be packed in galvanized iron drums with polyethylene bags on the inside. It can also be packed in plastic barrels or cardboard drums with a net weight of 50kg or 25kg per barrel (bag).

Industrial liquid zinc chloride should be shipped in plastic drums or steel tankers coated with anticorrosive materials such as acid-resistant paint. The package should be clearly marked as "corrosive goods". It should be stored in a ventilated and dry warehouse, avoiding open air storage. The container must be sealed to prevent moisture. It should not be stored and transported together with edible goods and feed. There should be a cover during transportation, to prevent rain and sunshine. When loading and unloading, it should be handled gently to prevent the package from breaking.

The storage period for Type I and Type II products in galvanized iron drums, cardboard drums and plastic drums is 6 months; the storage period for compound plastic woven bags is 2 months; the storage period for Type III products is 2 months, all from the date of production. In case of fire, it can be put out with water, sand and fire extinguisher.
